Robert John Thompson III died March 6 in Easton, Maryland.

Born August 16, 1956 in Easton, Maryland, John was employed by North Sails until a boogie board accident crippled him in 2004. He was a graduate of Salisbury University.

Notables included the Whitbred Contender, “Chessie”, the Americas Cup yachts around the world, and many other championships here and abroad.

John is survived by his loving family; parents, Robert Thompson of Tallahassee, Florida and Doris Thompson of Easton, Maryland; sister, Nancy Flynn and husband, Terry of League City, Texas; nephew, Colin Flynn; and niece, Samantha Flynn; cousins, Doug Cornelius of Church Hill, MD and wife, Linda; Vaughn Sloan of GA and wife, Donna; Barbara Orth of CA.
