The 80th Corsica River Yacht Club Annual Regatta was sailed on the weekend of July 23-24, 2022.

Heat indices over 100 F both days cut into participation but the three Penguins that showed up enjoyed a pleasant sail with a light but sailable breeze.  Bill Lawson sailing with his wife, Colette Preis easily won the event, finishing first in 4 of the 5 races.  Mike Baugh, sailing with his son, Heneage, had a nice outing, with Heneage, age 7, standing in the bow on the mast partner, undoubtedly keeping a look out for whales and such, and was later spotted taking a rest in the aft section of the boat.  They were joined on their return to shore by mother and brother, and took advantage of a very swimmable Corsica River.   The bluegrass band serenaded us as we cooled off in the pavilion prior to the awards presentation.  Penguins only raced Saturday, although the breeze was reportedly a bit stronger on Sunday.  Charlie Krafft discovered to his dismay that the only sail he brought was for his Thistle (a jib).  PRO John Foster saved the day with the loan of a mainsail he procured from the IPCDA for the Beast, Penguin 666, which he fully restored in 2021. Fortunately, with the delay waiting for the wind to fill in provided enough time for Charlie to drive to John’s farm and fetch the sail.
