The  2022 Heritage Regatta hosted by the Tred Avon Yacht Club in Oxford, MD, was held on Saturday, August27th.  PRO Eric Crawford set a windward leeward course for the 4 Comets and 6 Penguins sailing in a light northerly breeze, that shifted persistently to the west, requiring a continual rearrangement of the course as the day progressed.  Jeff Cox, sailing with daughter Ellie won the first two races.  Patrick and Susannah Brooks borrowed Sandy McAllister’s boat, SPAX, and traded finishes with Martin Krafft, sailing with Stephanie, until the final race, which was shortened at the gybe mark of the Olympic course as the wind shut completely down.  Patrick rode a fresh windline, which came just shy of bringing him to a race victory, as Charlie Krafft, sailing with Donna McKenzie were able to stay clear ahead at the three length zone to the gybe (now finish mark).  It was quite the jam up at that mark as the lead Comets could only watch and wait as the Penguins caught up to them, leading to a very congested finish.  The committee waited a short while, and then towed the fleet in. John Majane sailed with LeAnne Myhre and Joe Kildea borrowed Larry Cole’s boat, which Bill Lane has been storing.  It needed a good rinse to remove the mouse droppings, but Joe seemed to do just fine with it once it was cleaned out.  Of course, once we were ashore and packing the boats up, the breeze came back, so we got to watch the second race of the Log Canoe series, including one capsize.
