Potomac Penguin Fleet #1 Penso Frostbite

May 24, 2014

This year, PRSA’s Memorial Day regatta did not sail on the lower course because of insufficient interest from the Laser (and Penguin) fleet and not meeting the 5 boat minimum requirement to have a separate race course.  So, the Penguins ran their own regatta, sailing in the basin, at dead low tide, which restricted how far one could sail towards the airport.  6 windward leeward races were held, with Donna McKenzie serving as official timer.  She was the only crew among the four boats sailing, so she was assigned the time keeping, signaling, and recording race committee tasks.

The wind was nominally out of the northwest, but with western and northern oscillations, making it a typical Potomac sailing day.  Still, we got in six races.  Hank Krafft asked for a break to re-rig his shroud control lines, which were slipping, and after a short delay, the fleet decided six was enough and we called it a day.
